RETAINED DENTURES

Conventional dentures don't suit everyone. Not everyone can keep them in, eat with them comfortably and feel confident. If this sounds like you, then implants may be the solution you are looking for. The process is more involved than conventional dentures, but for those who can go down this path, it can be life changing.

Over recent years there have been many advances in implant technology. An implant-supported denture is a type of overdenture that is supported by special attachments, these snap onto permanent dental implants in the gum and bone. While conventional dentures which are gum supported have long been the choice for many people, implant retained dentures are becoming a popular new choice.

Implant retained dentures offer a host of benefits that make it a better choice than conventional dentures, particularly for the lower jaw because conventional dentures tend to be less stable. Although you can have implant supported overdentures on the upper and lower, with full or partial dentures, usually a conventional full upper denture is quite stable on its own and doesn't need the extra support offered by implants.

Advantages of Implant Retained Dentures.

- Improved confidence.

- Stability during eating.

- Increased preservation of the bone.

- Decreased shrinkage of gum tissue.

- Less food seepage under denture.

-Dietary nutritional benefits.

- Comfort, as pressure points are prevented that are commonly associated with conventional dentures.

You should remove an implant-supported denture morning and evening, daily, to clean the denture and gum area and just as with conventional dentures, you should not sleep with them at night.
